Just before the summer break, Christian Horner could look back on an extremely successful first half of the Formula One season. For the Red Bull Racing team boss, it is now a case of looking forward, although he is still occasionally reminded by Sky Sports of the controversy at Abu Dhabi in 2021.

The battle for the 2022 world title is in full swing, but for now Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton are only playing a supporting role. This makes the outcome of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix all the more sour for some fans of the driver, who lost out to Max Verstappen and seems to have no chance of winning the eighth world title he has set his sights on this year either.

Horner wants to look forward

When asked if he ever reflects on the events in Abu Dhabi, Horner said: "I always tend to look forward". For the Red Bull team boss, then, that race feels like a long time ago. "I can understand if you're a Lewis fan or a Mercedes fan, that you can feel aggrieved by the events of Abu Dhabi. If you're a Max fan you feel like it's redemption for what happened earlier in the year," he explained.

Horner stressed that the 2021 title race was not decided in the final race of the season. "That's where sport is always going to polarising. Last year, wasn't just about Abu Dhabi, it was about 22 races. Do I think Max deserved it? Absolutely," said the Red Bull Racing team boss, who insists he is not going to get too hung up on Abu Dhabi.
