Williams team principal Paddy Lowe has admitted that the team will struggle to replace their main sponsor Martini, who will leave the team for 2019.

Martini announced their departure at a bad time for Williams, as it was at the same time that the team was slumping at its worst, and when their designer Ed Wood suddenly decided to leave the team.

Martini brought the team a lot of money, and Lowe knows that that will be difficult to replace.

"It's clear that we, and I include myself in that, did not work well enough and for the past two months did not achieve the progress we should have," he said.

"It complicates the commercial situation but that's the sport we're in."

Lowe then denied that Ed Wood's departure and Martini's departure had anything to do with each other.

"Ed decided to leave to do other things, but it had nothing to do with the problems we're having on the track.

"His departure creates a vacancy but there's no rush to fill it."
