Martin Brundle saw Ferrari go all out for Max Verstappen throughout the race in Hungary. The Red Bull Racing driver did not seem to have a big chance of victory after starting from tenth place, but managed to surprise. Partly due to Ferrari not making strong strategic decisions.

Throughout the race, the Dutchman put in a strong performance and moved quickly up the field. It looked as though Leclerc would be able to claim another victory. However, Ferrari decided to react to Verstappen's second pit stop and Charles Leclerc was brought in. To everyone's surprise, the Monegasque was put on the hard tyre and fell far back.

"A lot of the pit stop activity was driven to cover off the recovering Verstappen" Brundle wrote in his column for Sky Sports. Ferrari were still responding and on lap 39 they sidelined Leclerc. "He either had to take soft tyres which wouldn't last until the end of the race, or the hard compound tyres which had looked pretty dire on other cars. They fitted the hards and consigned Leclerc to P6 whilst sliding all over the place", Brundle said.

From a possible podium to P4 and P6

In Hungary, Ferrari did not make its first strategic mistake of the season."The Ferrari team keep it tight and support each other on these reasonably frequent errors of late, but however you paint it they somehow navigated a fast car from second and third on the grid to finish fourth and sixth", said the British analyst.
