Haas F1 will introduce its first and perhaps only upgrade of the year in Hungary. The team led by Guenther Steiner has confirmed that the upgrade package will only be available on Kevin Magnussen's VF-22 this weekend. Mick Schumacher will have to wait a little longer.

With the budget cap, the financial means of the teams in the field of (further) development in Formula 1 have been equalised. For some teams, however, it remains difficult to compete with the big teams. Whether it is a lack of budget, lack of know-how or it's a strategy thing, Haas F1 is the only team that has not yet installed any upgrades on its car. The fact that they have been able to keep up with their rivals and score points in some of the twelve races says a lot about how good the VF-22 has been from the start of the season.

Schumacher must wait even longer

The forthcoming upgrade to be introduced in Hungary has been planned for some time but has been delayed. The team has the most time in the windtunnel this year, because they finished last and the team wants to test all upgrades and not show up on track with useless additions. In Hungary, that long-awaited upgrade package will finally be there, but for Schumacher it is an even longer wait. Steiner has confirmed to Bild.de that the German will not get any upgrades on his car yet: "The driver who is higher in the championship will get the update first." Magnussen currently has ten more points behind his name than Schumacher with a total of 22.

The reason given by Steiner is that there are not enough materials and resources to provide two cars with upgrades. Even with one upgrade package, it will be difficult for the team since there are not enough spare parts. Schumacher himself contributed twice to the depletion of the spare parts stock. His crashes in Saudi Arabia and Monaco caused a lot of damage.
