AlphaTauri brings major update to France: 'Hopefully things will be better'

The Austrian Grand Prix was one to forget for AlphaTauri, who finished outside the top ten with both drivers. For the French Grand Prix, however, the team is hopeful that a major update package will be brought along that will allow Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda to make a big step forward.

Pierre Gasly, who will drive his home race at the Circuit Paul Ricard this weekend, has high hopes for the upcoming updates. "I’m hoping things will get much better with the updates we will have on the car this weekend. They are mainly on the aero-side and they should deliver a real step up in performance, so I’m keen to try them out at Ricard, in the hope that they can put us back in the fight for points," he said in an AlphaTauri press release.

Gasly and Tsunoda hope for good result

For Gasly it is a special weekend as it is his home race, and all the more so as the future of the French GP is currently uncertain. "We are not sure if it stays on the calendar or not for next year, so I want to enjoy the moment and share it with all my fans, supporters and French F1 racing enthusiasts," concludes the 26-year-old Frenchman.

Yuki Tsunoda also hopes the updates will bring about a turnaround for the team. "We’ve gone for a major upgrade rather than lots of small ones. The new upgrade is focused on adding more load to the car, as we were quite weak in the medium to high-speed corners. Hopefully, it will bring us more consistency and allow us to fight at the top of the midfield again," said the Japanese.
