Former Renault driver and current BBC Sport pundit Jolyon Palmer thinks that the Ricciardo-Verstappen collision was of Red Bull's own doing, as the team doesn't have a clear first and second driver.

The key to functioning well as a team is to have a pecking order with your drivers, according to Palmer.

"In the top teams, there's a clear preference to one driver, even now when Kimi and Valtteri are clearly improving," he said on BBC Sport.

"Red Bull has two of the best drivers, some say the two best as of this moment, and they choose to let them race without having them on a leash.

"If you don't clearly show that one of the two is the clear number one, you'll get an internal fight, and that's been going on at Red Bull for some years now."

Palmer has often come out to criticize drivers since he joined the panel at BBC 5live. He's already spoken about Valtteri Bottas having a soft touch that no top drivers should have, and now he's letting his criticism fly at Red Bull.
