Max Verstappen has spoken out about the recent controversy surrounding the racist comments made by Nelson Piquet and Juri Vips. The Dutchman says that the use of the N-word is not correct and that he supports the sport and Lewis Hamilton in the fight against racism and discrimination.

The weekend before the British Grand Prix started on Thursday with the official press conference. The comments of Piquet and Vips are the subject of the day. The drivers are asked extensively for their opinion on the discriminatory remarks and Verstappen also responds.

"I think it’s not correct to use these words in general. I think that already starts with education nowadays from a younger age that at home at schools and it needs to be taught that you can’t say or use these words in general. That’s what we’re working on", Verstappen tells Sky Sports.

Verstappen condemns discriminatory language

Vips was recently sacked by Red Bull Racing as test and reserve driver after using the N-word during a Twitch stream. In addition, an older podcast was discovered with Piquet in which he used a Portuguese variant of the N-word about Lewis Hamilton. It seems that the three-time world champion is no longer welcome in the Formula 1 paddock. The sport is pushing hard against racism along with Hamilton. "F1 together with Lewis, they’re working on that for the future and all the drivers are behind that, we are all supporting that”, says the Dutchman.
