It was previously announced that Nelson Piquet will probably no longer be welcome in the Formula 1 paddock after he used the N-word on Lewis Hamilton during a podcast. The British Racing Drivers' Club has now also announced consequences for the world champion.

Piquet issued a statement apologising for his remark, but it seems we will not see the former driver in the paddock again. The board of the BRDC has also announced that Piquet's honorary membership has been suspended. After an official procedure, the former F1 driver will probably lose his membership completely.

The BRDC is a club set up for all professional British drivers who have been successful in a racing class for seasons. Formula One world champions automatically become members of the club even if they are not from the UK. Therefore Brazilian Piquet, with his three world titles, was also a member of the club.

Statement about Piquet

"In view of the BRDC’s zero-tolerance policy towards any act involving or suggesting racism, the BRDC Board has concluded that Mr Piquet Snr’s use of racially offensive language to describe a fellow BRDC member (and seven-times world champion) is unacceptable and represents conduct that is wholly inappropriate for an Honorary Member of the BRDC, notwithstanding his subsequent apology", the statement reads.

"Accordingly, we have advised Mr Piquet Snr that his membership has been suspended with immediate effect. Following the Club’s due process, it is anticipated that the Board will terminate Mr Piquet Snr’s membership at a board meeting to be held after the required seven-day notice period.”
