Sergio Perez says he feels more comfortable in Red Bull Racing's current car. The driver joined the team in 2021 and struggled to adapt to the Austrian stable's car. The Mexican himself says that things are much better this season and he immediately notices a good basis when he starts qualifying or the race.

Last season there was a big gap between Perez and teammate Max Verstappen. That gap seems to have closed more this year. The Mexican driver has beaten his teammate several times in qualifying and won the Monaco Grand Prix. Perez is currently second in the championship, 46 points behind Verstappen. The most important thing for Red Bull is that he is able to take points away from title rival Ferrari.

Big difference

Perez says the good performance is down to the feeling he has in the car. "I’m definitely more comfortable with the car than I was last year," the Red Bull driver is quoted by RaceFans."For example, it took me a bit longer to adapt to last year’s car. This year I can feel that already from FP1 I can start working on the car instead of working how to exploit the maximum out of the car. So that’s a huge difference over the weekend."

Confidence

Last season, Perez had a lot of problems mainly during qualifying. The Mexican was not always able to reach Q3 and the gap to Verstappen was getting bigger and bigger. This year he has the confidence in his car. "When I go into qualifying I’m much more prepared and similarly when I go into the race I think we’ve got a good platform. I’m confident with the car and I know what I have to do with the team to take the most out of it," Perez said.
