During the meeting for the team principals in Montreal, there was not only discussion about porpoising. The second support cable to stabilise the floor plate, which was allowed under the new 'technical directives', also caused discussions according to Auto, Motor und Sport.

The second support cable would help reduce porpoising. Coincidentally, it was Mercedes who had already brought this extra part to Montreal. This caused much suspicion among several team principals in the meeting.

"The introduction of the second support cable should be discussed in a technical committee," criticised Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner."It only helps one team to solve their problems. And that team was the only one to come up with this directly, even before the technical directive was sent through," said the Briton, referring to Mercedes.

Acting too quick on new rules

It wasn't just at Red Bull that people were surprised at how quickly Mercedes were able to act on the new rules."Toto claimed that they installed the support cables overnight. I can only say that we Ferrari could not have done this," said Mattia Binotto.

Alpine was also angry:"They must have known in advance. It couldn't be any other way," said Otmar Szafnauer. Alpine, according to the German medium, would even have announced a protest if Mercedes had entered the race with the extra part.
