Albers: 'Ferrari has made a bigger step than Red Bull'

Ferrari may not have taken home the victory for the Canadian Grand Prix, but according to Christijan Albers, the team made a big step. The Dutch racing driver believes that the team has advanced even further than Red Bull Racing.

"I think Ferrari has made a mega step. Ferrari has brought a bigger update than Red Bull in my opinion. If you look at the circuits where they were not strong, which are really the long straights where top speeds are important, you see that Ferrari has made a bigger step than Red Bull. I think that's clever and nice. That is also good for the championship", Albers says in the Formula 1 podcast of The Telegraaf.

Charles Leclerc had to start at the back of the grid and therefore could not compete for victory. Carlos Sainz did come close to Max Verstappen, but the Spaniard ultimately did not have it in him to beat the Dutchman. Still, it is not entirely clear what the proportions are between the two teams.

Ferrari needs to work on longruns

"The comparison has been there, just the outcome of the race is not there. The confirmation is not there. Leclerc would have just won with two fingers in his nose in Barcelona, but he dropped out", Albers continues. Due to reliability issues and driver errors, Ferrari has fallen further back, but that doesn't take away from the fact that the Italians have a strong car, according to the Dutch analyst.

Ferrari will have to improve especially in the longrun on the medium tyres, but in qualifying the team seems to have the fastest car for the time being. Verstappen managed to secure pole position in Canada, but title rival Leclerc did not get the chance to challenge the Dutchman.
