Christian Horner disagrees with how Formula 1 has handed the recent issues surrounding porpoising. The Red Bull Racing team boss believes the intent is good as they look to protect the drivers from injuries sustained due to porpoising but insists they've gone the wrong way about it.

Bad move

Red Bull Racing hasn't been as badly affected by porpoising as other teams have, such as Mercedes. But it seems like there is a general understanding in the paddock. Horner explains his thoughts about the situation in a conversation with Sky Sports

"It's a very dangerous thing to do giving the FIA... basically the right to set your rear ride height and your set up going into a race. What happens if the wind changes into a race? What if porpoising gets worse for whatever reason? Based on the baseline they give," Horner said.

"You can understand with the FIA, that safety is their main concern but to drop a technical directive as we are coming into a race weekend without any consultation. It feels like the wrong way to go about things. There should be consultation and a solution can be found."

Other solutions

It seems as if porpoising isn't as bad in Montreal compared directly with Baku last weekend. In the same conversation, Horner offered up some alternative solutions that perhaps could've been raised during a consultation process.

"There are so many other things they could do. Stick a bigger plank on it for example, that would get the cars off the ground, but trying to judge from one car to another. It's a complicated way to try and solve an issue that doesn't affect all of the teams," he added.
