The FIA announced the news on Thursday that they are going to address the problems with porpoising. The organisation is imposing a set of guidelines on the teams that should ensure that the bouncing effect is less to be seen in Formula One. Jenson Button and Martin Brundle argue to Sky Sports that this is a good thing.

Whereas Red Bull Racing quickly solved the problems with porpoising at the beginning of the season, this was not the case with Ferrari and Mercedes, among others. The German formation in particular is still experiencing problems and during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix saw Lewis Hamilton and George Russell even complaining of physical discomfort.

"I think all the drivers agree there should be a level playing field and shouldn't be limited on how much pain they can take," Button therefore said. "It hurts them racing the car now, in 5/10 years it could be a much bigger effect. We don't want that for these guys."

Teams have responsibility according to Brundle

With the new guidelines, however, the FIA is clearly placing the responsibility on the teams, so for now it remains to be seen how they will take it. According to Martin Brundle, it is important that the racing teams start solving it for their drivers.

"The FIA won't turn up with a piece and tell them to put it on the car it'll fix it. What they are trying to do is make the teams fix it. Some teams are telling me, we only lower our car until our drivers are comfortable. Other teams have it right. Those that have it wrong have to fix the issue," Brundle said.
