Charles Leclerc has had a tough start to the season. He's made mistakes, had reliability issues and suffered from bad strategy decisions from his team. The Ferrari driver is staying focused on the task.

Fatherly life lesson

In conversation with journalist Ian Parkes on the Goodwood website, Leclerc talks about how he remains calm even when the going gets tough. That's all thanks to his father, who passed away in 2017 just before Charles signed his first F1 contract. "My father had prepared me from the beginning, telling me to stay humble," Leclerc recalls.

The Ferrari driver thinks back to his days in karts. He was barely seven years old and winning races for the first time. His father knew how that felt, having made it to Formula 3 himself. "And obviously at seven years old, when you start winning, you think you are the best and he was already starting to tell me 'Calm down, Charles'."

Not letting it fool you

Leclerc says he has never been an arrogant person. Learning to be humble helped him a lot in his later life. Anyway, Leclerc says he likes to listen to people he trusts, family and his manager. Maybe that is why he remains so calm despite the chaos at Ferrari at the moment.
