The relationship between Haas F1, and in particular Guenther Steiner, and Mick Schumacher is starting to show cracks, it seems. After the Monaco Grand Prix, Steiner expressed some criticism of his German driver and his statements have not been entirely to his credit. During the Grand Prix weekend in Azerbaijan, the team boss of the American racing stable addressed the situation.

Are tensions running high at Haas F1?

Steiner suggested that Schumacher crashed too often and that shot Ralf Schumacher, among others, in the wrong direction. Mick himself was not very happy about it either, because in the square he indicated after qualifying on the street circuit of Baku that he was irritated because the situation that had arisen was "silly" in his opinion.

However, the still pointless driver continued in his interviews in a calm and diplomatic manner, indicating that it can indeed be better than he showed in 2022. Steiner himself is a bit more straightforward, and with that he is not always so nuanced.

Indeed, Steiner himself says to the German branch of Sky , somewhat annoyed: "When I read after a race what we all did wrong. I have ten things for every one of them where Mick is bad." Still, he refutes that the relationship is under high stress. "We talked last week. We are talking positively about how to move forward. Advice on how to move forward, I don't need."

Future Schumacher

Schumacher is currently in his second season with Haas F1, but he does not yet have a contract for 2023 in his pocket. It doesn't help that he hasn't managed a single top-ten finish, despite the fact that the car is certainly more competitive this year. When Steiner was asked how he sees the future, the Italian born replied: "It doesn't depend on us, it also depends on Ferrari", he was referring to the engine contract with the Maranello based team.

According to the 57-year-old top man, there is no doubt about Schumacher's abilities, but he does stress that it is important for a team like Haas F1 to grab points in the pinnacle of motorsport.
