After the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the Formula One circus heads straight to Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix. It means a switch for drivers, teams and fans, because the time difference with Baku is eight hours. So take a good look at what time you need to switch on for the sessions this weekend here.

Return to Montreal

After two years of absence, the Canadian GP will return to the F1 calendar in 2022. The race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve was scrapped in 2020 due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, and there was no visit to Montreal in 2021 either. Travel restrictions were very strict in Canada for a long time, but in 2022 it will again be possible for F1 to travel to the circuit.

A lot has changed since the last race in Canada. In 2019, Lewis Hamilton won the last race at the circuit after Sebastian Vettel received a five-second penalty for cutting a corner when defending against the Briton. Those two drivers do not appear to be competing for victory in 2022. Hamilton's Mercedes is not that competitive in 2022 and the chances of Vettel competing for victory with Aston Martin are zero percent.

Verstappen in the lead

In Canada it will most likely be another battle between Red Bull Racing and Ferrari, where especially the former is in good form. Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez shared the last five race victories, while Charles Leclerc saw his lead in the standings evaporate after two crashes in the last three races. Verstappen and Perez now lead the standings, where the Monegasque is 34 points behind championship leader Verstappen.

The Canadian Grand Prix is, as usual, a late affair for European fans. By bringing the local start times forward a little, the fans on the other side of the Atlantic are taken into account. As a result, qualifying will start at 9pm UK time and the race at 7pm.
