F1 World standings 2022 | Verstappen creates huge lead over competition
Max Verstappen has done tremendously good business in the world championship. The Red Bull driver won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and saw his title rival drop out. The Dutchman has thus managed to extend his lead considerably.
Verstappen takes distance
With his victory in Baku, Verstappen has now won five of the first eight races in 2022 and is on 150 points. Sergio Perez has moved up to second place in the standings due to his second place finish. With 129 points, the gap to Verstappen is now 21 points, but he has passed Charles Leclerc in the standings.
Due to problems with his engine, Leclerc again scored no points after a pole position and remains stuck on 116 points. His gap to Verstappen is now 34 points. George Russell is now even closer. The Briton is fourth in the championship on 99 points. Carlos Sainz remains stuck on 83 points after his retirement.
