Drugovich might go to IndyCar: 'My focus is on F1'

For Felipe Drugovich, a bright future beckons. In conversation with GPblog, the leader in the Formula 2 championship indicated that he may be able to drive a Formula 1 car during a free practice session as early as this season. His performance in the class just below F1 has undoubtedly opened the eyes of team bosses.

Mileage

Ultimately, the MP Motorsport driver wants to capture a racing seat in Formula 1. The Brazilian also realizes that the number of spots is limited. Moreover, many drivers have been signed up for many years, so opportunities to move up from F2 are limited. Especially for a young driver like Drugovich (22), creating mileage is important.

There may be more opportunities for talents in other classes. Brazilians, for example, are very popular in IndyCar. Helio Castroneves is a hero in the United States as well as in his native country. "Yeah, they are (popular)", Drugovich confirmed to GPblog. "My focus now is completely F1. Of course, if there are opportunities in Indy or hypercars, I would be happy to do those. But it will be different from a place in F1."

Freedom

Drugovich is not (yet) signed by a Formula One team. Whereas many competitors are tied to an academy of an F1 team, the Brazilian has never chosen to do so. So it gives him all the freedom to choose his own path in racing.
