Pierre Gasly said as quoted by Formule1.nl that he is disappointed with the new regulations. The Frenchman had expected the field to be a lot closer together. The top teams are still too far away.

No top teams teasing in 2022

In 2022, Formula 1 came up with new rules that were supposed to improve racing. In doing so, all teams should be a lot closer together in terms of speed. According to Gasly, this has been achieved in the midfield, but the top teams are still too far away.

Gasly says at Formule1.nl that the fourth team (McLaren) to the last team (Williams) are currently very much closer together. In contrast, Red Bull Racing, Ferrari and to some extent Mercedes are still too far away. Last year Gasly still managed to 'tease' them from time to time, but that is impossible in 2022.

Bottas is the only one who can squeeze in

There is one driver who can now occasionally fight with the three top teams says Gasly and that is according to him Valtteri Bottas. The Finn switched to Alfa Romeo in 2022 and has made a strong start. In the first seven races he scored points six times. The only time he didn't score was when he crashed out in Saudi Arabia with technical problems.
