Not for the first time this season Nyck de Vries had an e-Prix to forget. The reigning Formula E champion is not having any luck this year and seems to be losing grip on the title race.

Failed overtaking attempt

In a press release from his team Mercedes, De Vries spoke of "a disappointing result. The Dutchman had to abandon the race after an opportunistic overtaking attempt by André Lotterer, who hit De Vries on the left rear tire. The damage was so extensive that De Vries could forget a sure-seeming sixth or seventh place. "I had a lot of bad luck in this race, but that's just how it is sometimes. It's all part and parcel of racing, so we have to accept it and keep going", said De Vries.

His teammate Stoffel Vandoorne retained the lead in the World Cup standings. The Belgian could not look back on a perfect race. He missed the attack mode zone, which cost him time. "I dropped back a bit as a result and lost the connection with the leading group. But for that, I could have been fighting for a place on the podium and then it would have been a very different race, but that's just how it is. We must now learn from that", Vandoorne said.

Being constant

With fifth place, Vandoorne still kept the damage fairly limited. "The most important thing is to keep scoring points every weekend." At the same time, the Belgian also had to note that the points differences between the drivers in the standings are small. Jean-Eric Vergne follows Vandoorne on barely five points.
