Wear and tear in Formula E: 'A little cooler would be nice'

For the Formula E drivers, the e-Prix in Jakarta was a tough one. With temperatures above thirty degrees and high humidity, the gentlemen got out of their cars completely wet with sweat. A bottle of water was the first thing they all asked for. 

Battery suffers

The enthusiasm in the stands was great, according to the drivers. The audience in Indonesia, therefore, saw Formula E at work for the first time on home soil. "The fans were great," race winner Mitch Evans told GPblog and others at the press conference. "But a little cooler would be nice." 

The conditions were reminiscent of the Formula 1 race in Miami. The temperature and humidity there had a negative impact on the performance of some cars. A Formula E car also gets into trouble in such conditions, Evans noted. "The climate doesn't help, the car doesn't like this. The temperature of the battery is rising. We dealt with it as best we could. Today, apparently, that was good enough."

Vandoorne remains leader

Jean-Eric Vergne and Edoardo Mortara, who finished second and third respectively, concurred with the New Zealander's words. Evans took his third win of the season in Jakarta. With this, he is again fully involved in the battle for the title. Stoffel Vandoorne leads with 121 points, ahead of Vergne (116), Mortara (114) and Evans (109).
