Eddie Jordan no longer sees Lewis Hamilton as the king of Formula One. The seven-time world champion has been so in recent years, but Jordan argues that the Briton has been overtaken even within his own team.

Top of Formula 1

Ever since Hamilton debuted in F1, he has been a name to reckon with for the world title, and between 2014 and 2021, Hamilton competed with Mercedes in the title race every year. In 2022, however, that is different and there seems to be a changing of the guard in the sport. The question is whether Hamilton can now return to the top.

Former Formula One team boss Jordan has his reservations about that. ''Absolutely, I think the big surprise is, everybody globally, in Formula 1 context, thinks that Lewis Hamilton is top dog,'' Jordan told Channel 4. According to the Irishman, however, that is no longer the case.

Hamilton is losing the lead

''But he’s no longer top dog, not even in that team because Russell has taken his perch away. And I think it’s very interesting to watch and I want to see how Lewis is going to overcome that,'' the 74-year-old analyst concludes.

George Russell is indeed currently the driver with the most points behind his name within Mercedes, but Hamilton has not been completely defeated. For example, Toto Wolff still called the two drivers equal and Hamilton has also had to deal with a lot of bad luck during the first seven races. However, the difference of 34 points is too big for such a great champion.
