Horner fights with Ferrari and Mercedes to raise budget ceiling

Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull Racing want to convince the FIA that the budget ceiling needs to be raised this season, informed Sky Sports. This is because the top teams in Formula 1 believe that it is impossible to stay under the maximum amount of 119 million euros. However, at least two racing teams have a different opinion.

The top teams point to the explosion in inflation and freight costs, which means they are spending much more money per race. "We're seeing it in Formula 1, we're seeing it with logistics, we're seeing it with energy costs. That to me is something the FIA need to take into account," Red Bull team boss Christian Horner let the English medium know.

Horner admits that all Formula 1 teams agreed to the budget cuts, but emphasizes that nobody could have foreseen that the costs would increase so much. The Briton, therefore, hopes for understanding from the FIA and that an exception can be made once.

Alpine and Alfa Romeo are in the way for the time being

It remains to be seen whether the organization will actually agree to the request because not all teams are in agreement with the top teams. Alpine and Alfa Romeo, for example, would see no reason to change the rules. According to them, Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari allowed themselves to be surprised and should therefore have been more forward-looking.
