The three Friday practice sessions are over and that means we can get ready for qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix. At 15:00 UK time the lights will be green for the first time when Q1 starts. Will Ferrari continue their good form in the battle for pole position or can Red Bull Racing surprise us?

Excitement and sentiment

It promises to be another exciting qualifying session. The Ferrari's should have a slight advantage over one lap, but when it comes down to it Max Verstappen can always step up a gear. It's going to be important to see how teammate Sergio Perez does. Either way, splitting the Ferrari would be a great starting position for Sunday.

Something else to look forward to is how Aston Martin will perform in qualifying. The British team are driving a B-specification of the AMR22 and Red Bull in particular is not happy with that. They claim that Aston Martin has illegally copied the RB18. Can Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll play a significant role? Mercedes looked much improved on Friday, are they able to spring a surprise in Barcelona?

The conditions in Spain are tough, both for the driver and the tyres. With temperatures of over 30 degrees, it will be quite a sweat for the drivers in the cockpit. Moreover, they have the challenge of keeping the rubber alive for an entire lap. The tyre degradation is high and so it is very important that the decay in the last sector is not too great.
