RECAP: The 2017 Azerbaijan Grand Prix

We don't have long to wait until this season's race in Baku and as the anticipation builds up, we take a look back at last year's Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

The race last year took place a later in the Formula 1 calendar. It was the 8th Grand Prix of the season, taking place in late June. In 2018, it comes as the first race in the European stint.

As standard in 2017, Lewis Hamilton started from pole position posting a 1:40.593 in Q3. This was over 1 second faster than third place Kimi Raikkonen. Bottas started in 2nd.

The Championship leader, Sebastian Vettel started in 4th. By this stage in the season, Vettel had a 12 point lead over the Brit.

Daniel Ricciardo started in 10th place.

Ricciardo pitted on lap 6 as a result of debris on his brakes. He rejoined the track in P17.

The red-flagged appeared on lap 20 to allow clearing of debris. The race restarted behind the safety car followed by Hamilton. Vettel, Massa, Stroll and Ricciardo ran behind.

By lap 29, the race leader Lewis Hamilton experienced an issue. His headrest came loose and after trying to fix it himself, he was eventually forced to pit. After Vettel had served his 10-second penalty from an earlier incident, and the Williams drivers experienced separate incidents, Ricciardo was in the lead.

The Aussie went on to win the race, his first in 13 races.
