It looks like Red Bull Racing will respond in Barcelona to the improvements announced by Ferrari for the Spanish Grand Prix. According to Dr. Helmut Marko, the RB18 will finally reach its target weight with new components.

With the new technical regulations in Formula 1, a maximum weight for the cars had been set at 795 kilograms. Only Alfa Romeo managed to build a car that did not exceed this weight. The FIA decided to increase the maximum allowed weight to 798. For Alfa Romeo team owner Frédéric Vasseur this came understandably as a shock. The fact that teams like Red Bull Racing and Mercedes then still didn't manage to meet the weight limit caused even more outrage.

Red Bull at weight in Spain

Red Bull is developing the RB18 and the team hopes to bring new and lighter parts to Spain. This is what Marko says to F1-insider.com: "We are starting with new parts, which will finally get us to the ideal weight. So far we were relatively far above the maximum allowed weight of 798 kilograms." De Telegraaf has also picked up on the fact that Red Bull has reduced the weight. According to the Dutch newspaper, the team has eliminated between three and five kilograms.

Less weight means the RB18 will go a bit faster again. In the championship battle between Max Verstappen 's team and Ferrari, it is not an unnecessary luxury. The characteristics of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya are favorable for Ferrari. In addition, Ferrari is also taking a large package of updates with them to Barcelona. Marko previously predicted an exciting development battle with Ferrari. The battle between Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc will again provide spectacle in Spain.
