Verstappen nearly knocked out: 'Not really a corner combination for F1'

In Miami, several drivers had trouble with Turn 14 and Turn 15. The tight chicane that ran under the highway even caused a dangerous situation for Max Verstappen on Friday. The Dutchman finds it more of a kart corner than an F1 corner.

Verstappen almost knocked out

Verstappen came under fire briefly from Charles Leclerc in the closing stages of the Miami Grand Prix, but ultimately managed to win the race from the third starting position. After his victory, the Red Bull Racing driver spoke to the press. Together with Leclerc and Carlos Sainz he discussed the challenging chicane.

Verstappen: "I think this would be a nice chicane in a kart, but not in the current F1 cars. I agree with Carlos. I can remember that in one of the four laps I drove on Friday I almost got knocked out because I hit the first kerb and my head swung from left to right. That happened at least five or six times, but really bad." The driver wonders if the layout of the kerbstones should be different. Verstappen namely prefers a more gradual hill.

Leclerc thinks chicane is fine

The Limburger doesn't like the slow corners. His RB18 doesn't benefit from very slow corners either. The Ferrari car on the other hand is a lot stronger than the Red Bull car and gains time in the slow corners. Leclerc, therefore, had little trouble with the chicane: "I think I am the only driver on the grid who really liked this chicane."
