Miami and Zandvoort are mentioned in the same breath by none other than F1 boss Stefano Domenicali. The two seaside resorts set a new standard in Formula 1 in terms of fan experience.

Zandvoort sets new benchmark

The 2021 Zandvoort Grand Prix was a true spectacle. Max Verstappen won in front of his home crowd and the roof went off. If we are to believe the Formula 1 organization, the roof would have been off even if Verstappen had not won. The organization of the Dutch GP had set the bar high in terms of fan experience and they surpassed all previous GPs.

Miami follows Zandvoort example

Domenicali sees even before the Miami Grand Prix has started that the same atmosphere has been created in Miami. Speaking to De Telegraaf the F1 boss says, "The incredible talent and vision of places like Zandvoort and Miami set a new standard for our promoters, in the way they create events that give the fans something to do all weekend." Domenicali continued, explaining exactly what that way means: "They deliver racing and entertainment spectacles full of music, hospitality and culture, while giving a new and unique identity to F1 racing."

There is still an American driver missing from Formula 1. What Verstappen's home victory did to the Dutch fans was a special moment. The victory of an American driver in front of his own home crowd will also give a big boost to events like the Miami GP and the planned Las Vegas GP. Although Miami does not necessarily seem to need that yet to make it a festive weekend.
