Formula 1 is working behind the scenes to increase sustainability. The idea of making the motorsport class fully electric often comes up, but according to Jenson Button, it is impossible to keep the sport interesting at the same time. He tells this to Gentleman's Journal.

During the last few years, sustainability has been moving higher and higher on the agenda of Formula 1. Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton, among others, spoke out several times in the past about the importance of this topic, which has led to increasing attention.

Button gives FIA important advice

In the coming seasons, the FIA hopes to take new steps, with the organization appearing to be thinking of several improvements. If it's up to Button, switching completely to electric cars is not a good idea for Formula 1 at all.

"I think if you turned around and made them EV tomorrow, they’d become very heavy – and that’s exactly what you do not want," Button explained. "Also, you wouldn’t be able to have an hour-and-a-half race, because it [the cars] would be the size of an SUV to get all the battery packs in it. So no, it’s not going to happen in the near future."
