Miami circuit offers opportunities for Red Bull Racing despite 'Ferrari sector'

In Miami, the Formula 1 drivers will again encounter a new circuit and so it is guesswork as to the performance of all the teams. However, based on the cornering speeds, an estimate can be made as to which car will fit best here.

At the Miami International Autodrome, as the street circuit around Hard Rock Stadium is called, we find a variety of corners. GPblog's Instagram post shows that there is an entire section completed at low speed, there are some medium-speed corners and quite a few straights as well.

Those straights have been mostly in Red Bull Racing's favour in 2022. Max Verstappen's team shut down twice due to reliability issues, but the engine is very fast. The package of the RB18 also works very well on the straights, giving the Austrians a big advantage over Ferrari here.

Red Bull or Ferrari at an advantage?

Based on the first races, the slow sector on the track should actually be to Ferrari's advantage. In Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Australia, the F1-75 proved to be a lot better in the slow sections than the Red Bull and gained a lot of time there. In Imola, Red Bull was dominant everywhere, but this may have been due to the conditions, or the update was really great.

More time is gained in a slow sector than in a fast sector, and the slow sector is much more present in Miami than it was in Imola. You would therefore expect Ferrari to have the upper hand slightly here again on Saturday. On the straights, however, Red Bull can make up a lot again and there are plenty of chances to overtake in the race. It will probably be close again this weekend.
