AlphaTauri will arrive in Imola with the first major upgrade of 2022, The Race reports. With this, the car should be a lot faster in the fight in the midfield for the team's home race.

The battle in the midfield

AlphaTauri has found itself in quite a fight in the midfield with McLaren, Alpine, Alfa Romeo and Haas F1 for the fifth spot among the constructors in 2022. Of this line-up, the Italian racing stable does find itself in the bottom spot with ten points. To catch up, the team is bringing a first major upgrade for the AT03 to Emilia Romagna.

The strong results AlphaTauri achieved in 2021 are not there yet. Nevertheless, Pierre Gasly is in good spirits. "It’s not like we’re dead slow," he let The Race know. "I don’t think we’re missing much but definitely need to come up with some developments if we want to keep up with the other guys."

AlphaTauri's upgrades

The first upgrades AlphaTauri are bringing for the AT03 will be a new floor and custom brake ducts at the front. Gasly is happy with the updates and says he is curious to see if it makes the car faster. Currently Gasly is in twelfth place in the drivers' standings with six points, just ahead of teammate Yuki Tsunoda.
