Stroll not happy with stewards: 'A lot of funny decisions at the moment'

During the Australian Grand Prix, Lance Stroll received a five-second time penalty from the stewards for weaving on the straight. Although it did not change the final classification of the Aston Martin driver, he is not at all happy with the stewards' decision.

Stroll denounces 'funny decisions'

After the safety car, Stroll tried with all his might to defend his position from Valtteri Bottas. The Canadian swerved on the straights to keep the Finn out of his slipstream. The stewards thought that he went too far, but Stroll himself believes that he did nothing wrong. According to him it is allowed to swerving on the straights, as long as you don't do it when someone is really approaching. "It's only about the last move," Stroll told The Race.

Stroll defends his actions with the fact that many other drivers were also swerving on the straights. Moreover, he swerved not to defend his position, but only to break the slipstream, argues the Aston Martin driver. "They then punish me for that. There are a lot of funny decisions being made at the moment."

Aston Martin lacked speed

Penalty or no penalty, for the points Stroll and Aston Martin were chanceless in Australia anyway. The Canadian balks at the penalty, but mostly because he doesn't understand the reasoning behind it. Stroll finished twelfth and had enough margin on Mick Schumacher in thirteenth place, so the penalty did not change anything in the final ranking. According to Stroll, the team did its best, but Aston Martin just didn't have the speed to take points.
