Alexander Albon is in danger of being dropped from qualifying. At the end of the session there was not enough fuel in his tank to take a fuel sample from it, and so he too must report to the stewards.

Albon risks disqualification

The Williams driver qualified in sixteenth place, but may not be allowed to start from that spot. Towards the end of Q1, he stalled after being told by his team to park his car. The reason behind this was not shared, but it seems that the team made a miscalculation with the remaining fuel in the tank.

At the end of the session, there appeared to be not enough fuel in the tank for the required one-liter sample. Stopping the car was of no use, as the fuel needed to drive back to the pits is simply added to the required amount by the FIA.

Only a 0.33-liter sample could be taken, and so Albon risks a disqualification. As a result, he will most likely have to start from the back of the grid or from pit lane.

Update | Albon disqualified

After consideration by the stewards, Albon has lost his sixteenth starting place. The verdict on this offence is usually very black and white, so the disqualification was expected.
