Since leaving F1 in 2019, Nico Hulkenberg has always remained linked to Formula One. In 2020, he was called up for three Grands Prix to replace first Sergio Perez and then Lance Stroll at Racing Point and has remained with the Silverstone-based team as a reserve driver ever since.

This paid off in Bahrain, when it was announced that Sebastian Vettel could not participate in the first Grand Prix of the season due to catching Covid. As a result, Hulkenberg was able to experience a race weekend from the cockpit at Aston Martin for the first time since the Eiffel Grand Prix in 2020.

A full-time seat with an F1 team next year would be the dream scenario.

"Yes, of course, if there is a good opportunity, definitely I'm up for it. There is a lot of great things that happen in Formula 1, and it's a lot of fun." Hulkenberg, however, is realistic and sees few opportunities for 2023. "If the right opportunity is there, of course, but that's not going to be an easy, easy task. I think everyone's learning curve is very steep with these new cars. There's lots to learn, you know, and we'll continue for the months to come."
