Helmut Marko has confirmed that Red Bull Racing's RB18 is roughly ten kilograms 'overweight', but expects the team to manage to solve that problem within a few weeks. Moreover, Red Bull may gain an unexpected advantage in the second half of 2022.

In an interview with Formel1.de Marko confirms that the RB18 is about ten kilos overweight, which the team hopes to get rid of before the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix on April 24. Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez would lose roughly three to four tenths per lap to the competition due to the extra weight.

The Ferrari F1-75 is said to be a few kilograms lighter than the RB18 and so there is still "considerable time to be gained" by Red Bull Racing in that area, the Austrian notes. There is also room for improvement in the set-up, according to Marko. This is in contrast to the F1-75, which Marko says is 'always fast in all conditions'.

Possible advantage for Red Bull in second half of 2022

Another possible advantage for Red Bull Racing may occur after July 1st. Should Ferrari still lead the standings at that time, the limits on the number of hours allowed in the wind tunnel will be adjusted.

Whereas Red Bull is allowed to spend 60 hours in the wind tunnel in the first half of 2022, that number is 64 for Ferrari. If the current position remains the same, the hours for Ferrari will be pushed back to 56, while Red Bull will go to 64.
