After 215 attempts, Sergio Perez finally nailed pole position in Formula 1 on Saturday. The Mexican was controlling the race from the front until he pitted and got unlucky with a subsequent safety car that offered his rivals a free pitstop.

In his interviews after the race, Perez accepted his bad luck and believes it will come back around in the future. "This is just racing especially at this place. We got the undercut margin and things were looking good but unfortunately Latifi put it in the wall but this is racing and it will come around. We did everything we could to win this race," Perez said in a conversation with Sky Sports.

The main battle took place at the front, but Red Bull and Ferrari also had a duel for the final podium place. There was some debate about whether Perez gained a position under the safety car as Sainz rejoined the track from the pits. A freeze-frame demonstrated that Sainz reached the safety car line first and therefore the Mexican had to give the place back. He thought this was "fair enough"

With bad luck on Checo's side of the garage, his teammate Verstappen took the race victory. Perez is pleased with the result for his team, who improve on a double DNF last time out in Bahrain.

"It's very positive for the team and I am very happy for Max. After the weekend, we had, great to have Red Bull up there again," Perez concluded.
