With ten pole positions, Max Verstappen was supreme not only on Sunday but also on Saturday in 2021. Whereas he was previously known for his excellent overtaking races, he has now frequently shown that strong form on Saturdays as well. But where does he prefer?

In previous years, the Dutchman showed that he is quite adept at working his way through the field. He has frequently proven that he does not need the first starting spot to win races, but admits that it is desirable.

Verstappen wants fastest car on Saturday

"If you have a fast car over one lap, you should also have a fast car in the race. We have to make sure we have the fastest car, then it doesn't matter how the season goes," he said in conversation with Formula1.com.

The reigning world champion does not expect only victories from pole position, so overtaking races will also still occur. Nevertheless, he recognizes that having the fastest car on Saturday is the best starting position. "If you start at the front, you don't have to overtake anyone, so that's the goal," says Verstappen.
