Haas F1 announced on Wednesday night that Kevin Magnussen will take over the seat from Nikita Mazepin. Guenther Steiner says the Dane was a logical choice for the team because of his experience in the sport.

"I’m delighted to welcome Kevin Magnussen back to Haas F1 Team. When looking for a driver who could bring value to the team, not to mention a wealth of Formula 1 experience, Kevin was a straightforward decision for us", Steiner begins on the website of Haas.

Since Mazepin's official departure, names and rumors about his successor circulated for days. Among others Nico Hulkenberg, Antonio Giovinazzi and Pietro Fittipaldi were mentioned as options, but the team finally chose the well-known and experienced Magnussen. The Dane even signed a multi-year deal at Haas.

Steiner impressed with Magnussen

"Kevin was a key component in our previous successes – not least when we both scored our best finishes in Formula 1 back in 2018. He continued to show last year that he’s an elite race car driver adding wins and podiums to his resume", the Haas team boss continues. Magnussen drove at Haas from 2017, but the team decided to continue with Mick Schumacher and Mazepin after 2020.

"As a veteran presence in both the garage and the engineering room, he’ll provide a solid benchmark for us with the on-going development of the VF-22. We’re all looking forward to welcoming Kevin back this week in Bahrain." Fittipaldi will take his seat in the Haas on Thursday afternoon, but after that Magnussen will take the wheel from him.
