With the departure of Otmar Szafnauer, Aston Martin had to look for a new team owner. Mike Krack became his replacement. An old acquaintance of Sebastian Vettel, who hopes he can entice the German to stay longer.

The future of Vettel

Back in 2006, he was at Vettel's debut in Formula 1. When the German made his first meters in the sport for BMW, Krack was the young driver's engineer. Although the two lost track of each other for years afterwards, they have not forgotten that moment. Krack then worked in Formula 3, DTM and the WEC, but will return to F1 in 2022 as team owner.

The Luxembourger is happy with the opportunity offered to him at Aston Martin. The team is under construction under the leadership of Lawrence Stroll. The factory is working hard to compete at the top of F1 in the future, and Krack should play a role in that. He, therefore, hopes to keep a four-time world champion like Vettel with the team for longer.

Potential at Aston Martin

In a conversation with Formel1.de the team boss does explain, however, that he realises that Vettel will not stay if the car is not good enough. Krack will have to ensure a good car and a structure that will ensure more good cars are built in the future. ''He (Sebastian Vettel) has to see that the potential is here.''

However, this is not just to retain Vettel, but also to grow as a team in the future. Krack is happy to keep Vettel there if the German also wants to stay, but didn't talk about that yet. ''First we need to build a good package. Then Sebastian and other good drivers will want to come to our team,'' Krack concludes.
