The FIA has decided not to organize any more Grand Prix in Russia in the coming period, Erik van Haren reports on his Twitter channel. According to him, there will therefore be no race in St. Petersburg in 2023.

For the past eight years, drivers have traveled to Russia for a GP. This season the country was also on the racing calendar, but that changed when Vladimir Putin decided to attack Ukraine. The FIA not only had to deal with criticism from outside, but the drivers and teams also expressed criticism. Thereupon the FIA decided to cancel the event.

The Formula 1 organization was not sure whether there would be a race in Russia next year, but according to Van Haren a line can definitely be drawn through it. It means that the FIA will be busy looking for a replacement for the Russian GP in the coming period.

Behind the scenes the FIA is currently busy talking to various circuit organizations to fill the vacant spot. Formula 1 does not seem to have much to complain about in terms of interest, as the increasing attention for the sport has led to several countries interested in taking over the organization.
