Ross Brawn has seen with his team what the outcome has become of the new regulations. Formula 1's top technical executive doesn't expect a competitive field right away, but he does think these rules will ensure success in the long run.

Brawn's idea

In 2022, the long-awaited new regulations finally took effect. Formula 1's set of aerodynamic regulations was already supposed to change in 2021, but was pushed back a year due to the coronavirus. Now it's finally here and we're going to see if Formula 1's plans at the drawing board are reflected on the track.

Liberty Media in fact brought Brawn in to shape the cars for the future in F1. There needs to be more excitement in the sport, where often one team can dominate for years. The goal is to bring the teams closer together and also to make the cars follow each other more easily so that overtaking can also be improved.

Who will come out on top in 2022

''Because of the new rules, we will see some difference in performance among the teams at the beginning, but I think that is unavoidable. We have to go for this direction though because with how it was it would only get worse,'' former Ferrari technical director says to Express.com.

Brawn, therefore, says that every decision was aimed at making the sport more accessible to all teams, making it possible for everyone to win races. At the beginning of a new set of regulations, some teams always have a better grasp of the rules than the others, but Brawn does not expect huge differences from front to back: ''Unless someone has really screwed up,'' Brawn concludes.
