Yuki Tsunoda had a volatile first season in Formula 1. The small Japanese driver from AlphaTauri managed to get some fine results, but also had some dissapointments. His second season should be all better, especially since Tsunoda has learned an important lesson.

Underestimated

Formula 1 is a physically demanding sport. Often drivers don't realize this until they drive a Grand Prix for the first time. Tsunoda has also experienced how physically demanding racing in the F1 car is, according to his team boss Franz Tost. According to Tost, the Japanese driver had a hard time reacting quickly to unexpected and unusual events around him on the track.

To F1i.com Tost said that Tsunoda is certainly not the first to underestimate driving an F1 car. "I always tell young drivers when they come to Formula 1: 'Now the real hard work starts! Everything you did before was kindergarten, now you have to start working, be disciplined'."

Fitter

AlphaTauri did everything in its power last year to train Tsunoda to be a real Formula One driver. For example, the Japanese had to move to Faenza, Italy, so that he could be better monitored by his team. According to Tost, Tsunoda will start this season fitter than he was last year. "Yuki improved a lot last season," Tost said.
