Sergio Perez is starting his second season at Red Bull Racing this year. In a preview of this year, the Mexican reflected on the new race management. Perez, like his team boss Christian Horner, believes that Michael Masi didn't recieve enough support.

Perez will have to face Max Verstappen again this year. Like all of Verstappen's teammates, Perez also failed to match the class of the Dutchman in 2021. Perez has more hope this year with the new RB18 that is currently undergoing extensive testing. The RB16b was a car that could only be driven one way and that was the Verstappen way. This year, hopefully, that could be different for the Mexican.

Perez agrees with team boss about Masi

Perez played an important role in Abu Dhabi with his defensive work against Lewis Hamilton and helped Verstappen take the world title. Speaking to Spanish Mundo Deportivo he discussed the FIA's decision to remove Masi from service and create a new race committee. "Never in the history of Formula 1 has a race director been so widely publicized. The pressure on him is incredible. I think we were possibly wrong there. Possibly we didn't give him the support he needed at the time."

Team boss Christian Horner also reported during the winter tests in Barcelona that he was outraged by the actions of the FIA. The Briton believes that the FIA should have done more to defend Masi against the enormous pressure from outside. The death threats that the Australian even received show that Masi certainly should have received more help from the FIA.
