Stroll considers owning Aston Martin engine against Wolff's advice

Aston Martin is considering developing its own engines starting in 2026. According to Formel1.de Lawrence Stroll this would go against the advice of his friend Toto Wolff.

Since the acquisition of Lawrence Stroll, it is clear that the team can no longer settle for a spot in the middle or sub-top. Stroll wants to lead the team to the top of Formula 1 and is not afraid to invest. For example, the factory is already undergoing a major overhaul and a new wind tunnel will be in place by the summer of 2023. The entire investment would amount to 150 to 200 million euros.

With that project, Stroll shows that he not only says he wants to bring the team to the level of Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull Racing, but also puts his money where his mouth is. In addition to the larger factory, more employees will be hired to grow as a team, but Stroll also doesn't hesitate to take big names away from Red Bull and even from his friend Wolff's team: Mercedes.

Wolff disagrees

That Stroll increasingly chooses his own way in this is also clear from a comment by Andrew Green. According to Formel1.de, the team's technical director revealed that the team is looking at the possibilities of developing its own engine from 2026 onwards. Like Red Bull Racing, the team would then also develop an engine at its own factory in Silverstone.

This would go against the advice of Wolff, who would not advise this. Wolff himself is also a shareholder in Aston Martin and has something to say, but Stroll seems to be making his own plans. Until 2025 Aston Martin will remain connected to Mercedes in any case.
