Pascal Picci left as leader of the Sauber Group, the parent company of Alfa Romeo F1 Team, very suddenly at the end of November last year. The former top executive no longer wanted to work with Frederic Vasseur. The Alfa Romeo team boss is now coming months later with a response to Picci's departure.

Vasseur was blamed by Picci for not determining the driver line-up for 2022 in a neat way. That was one of the reasons he no longerwanted 'to be associated with Vasseur's management'.

In an interview with The Race Vasseur himself said that choosing a driver is never easy because it is always a combination of several factors. That Picci drew his conclusions and decided to close the door behind him is 'his own decision' in the view of the 53-year-old Frenchman.

Vasseur balks at Picci

"I think it’s a shame that he put the story into the press and he went to a journalist to do the interview. Because I think the discussion of the board has to stay within the board. It’s not a public meeting. And for the tranquillity of the team, for the future of the team, the stability would have been much better to have an internal discussion", Vasseur says.

Two weeks ago the Italian/Swiss team announced that in 2022 it will no longer be known as Alfa Romeo Racing Team ORLEN. From now on the racing team will be called Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN, with the addition of 'F1 team' as a sign of honor.
