Mohammed Ben Sulayem is the successor to Jean Todt as FIA president. Todt has completed the maximum allowed twelve years in the position. Alain Prost now appears to have had an interest in the function.

Sulayem had only one opponent, Todt's former right-hand man Graham Stoker. Prost, however, had almost competed for the position as the third opponent.

In conversation with L'Equipe the Frenchman said that he had been interested in the position. "I'll tell you a secret - I was about to apply for the presidency of the FIA, but it was too late."

Prost looking for new project

"I have spent almost forty years in Formula 1, from driver to team boss and including positions within the board. It's a role I would have liked to take on", Prost says. The four-time world champion is looking for a new project after Alpine did not renew his contract within the team. The Frenchman did not have a good relationship with CEO Laurent Rossi. Prost worked as an advisor to the team since 2015 and was appointed non-executive director from 2019.
