Alonso enjoyed watching another F1 driver in addition to Verstappen

Fernando Alonso returned to Formula 1 in 2021 after several years away. The Spaniard was a big fan of two drivers in recent years, he says in an interview with the official website of Formula 1.

In recent years, the Alpine driver did not hide the fact that he could enjoy the qualities of Max Verstappen. The Dutchman won the world championship last calendar year, but had already shown earlier that he had a great talent at his disposal. The Dutchman gave Alonso an extra reason to keep following Formula 1.

In addition, he enjoyed watching George Russell during that period. The Brit experienced a great year at Williams last season, securing a switch to Mercedes. According to Alonso, the German racing stable saw this well, but they could already see that Russell had a lot of talent in the last few years. Alonso is therefore looking forward to the new season.

Verstappen and Russell were therefore the drivers he followed closely in recent years. "And Daniel because he was in the Renault and that car was very interesting to me last year," he laughed in the interview. "They were giving something extra and that was the reason why I was putting on the TV." In 2022, it will be seen if the trio can bring the same level.
