Fernando Alonso has stressed that he is happy in Formula 1, and always has been. The Spaniard is often asked if he is happier after changes in his career, but he himself disagrees with those statements.

Alonso returned to Formula 1 last season with Alpine after a two-year break. The Spaniard seemed very frustrated with the sport when he left after the dramatic partnership with McLaren. The two-time world champion gets asked why he seems more satisfied with the sport since his return, but he disagrees.

There were also similar comments after his arrival at Ferrari and McLaren. In his break from F1, Alonso drove Dakar, Indy500 and WEC, among others, again with the same comments. According to the Alpine driver, the incorrect perceptions surrounding his luck come from the troubled year at McLaren in 2007, when he was the teammate of rookie Lewis Hamilton.

British environment

"I think from 2007 and fighting with Hamilton in a British team, in a British environment, it was the wrong message that people perceived and people spread about me - that from 2007, everyone is surprised about how good I feel and how happy I am", Alonso explains at Crash.net. Hamilton and Alonso finished that season with the same number of points.

The 40-year-old driver insists that he is happy and that not much has changed. He indicates that he was tired in 2018, but also had fun at McLaren. He quit F1 because he had other things on his mind.
