Today it was time for the fifth stage of the 2022 Dakar Rally. The route ran in a loop of 560 kilometers for motorcycles and quads, and 611 kilometers for the other categories. The route started and ended in the Saudi capital Riyadh.

Results Motorcycles

The motorcycles once again started before dawn. At 05:45 the first participants were at the start, this time accompanied by the cars, which started earlier than usual. Toby Price proved to be the fastest man of the day, taking his first win of the day. Former MotoGP rider Danilo Petrucci, riding with a broken ankle, followed just four minutes behind the winner. Ross Branch completed the top three.

In the end, Price was able to claim the day's victory after he was given a six-minute time penalty for speeding on Thursday afternoon. Petrucci, who is competing as a rookie, won a stage of the famous Dakar Rally for the first time.

Results Cars

Not only the motorcycles, but also the cars got off to an early start today. The category started two hours earlier than usual and also kicked off at 05:45, at the same time as the motorcycles. Here Henk Lategan closed the stage as the fastest. He did so ahead of Sebastien Loeb, who, with a second time, was almost three minutes ahead of classification leader Nasser Al-Attiyah. The stage was not without its problems for Lategan, who had to complete the last part of the stage with a door that could not be closed. However, that did not stop him from taking the day's victory.
