It came as a fairly big surprise that Honda would be quitting Formula 1 after 2021. The Japanese company have said goodbye on a high note with a world title together with Red Bull Racing, and their victory has raised the question of whether they've decided to turn their backs on the premier class of motor sport too soon. Either way, Martin Brundle thinks we'll see Honda back in the not too distant future.

Return of Honda

Masashi Yamamoto, top executive of Honda, already frankly admitted last week that he believes his employer pulled the plug on the F1 project too soon. He had hoped to be allowed to continue, but he came up short.

Honda has left Formula 1 many times before, but until now the brand has always returned. Brundle, who has been an F1 commentator for years at Sky Sports, suspects that this is about to happen again, something he told Sky Sports F1 this week.

"Red Bull have still been very generous and wanting to maintain a relationship with Honda in the transition. They’ll come back, and we hope that the Volkswagen Group, Audi will join. Formula 1 is stratospheric at the moment, so they can always make a decision to come back," said the 62-year-old Briton.
